A Day in the Life of a Mobile Hairdresser Covering Three Counties

By the time most people are having breakfast, she’s already on the road to her first appointment of the day — often before 8am, often over an hour’s drive away.

Why mobile

She trained in a salon and worked there for six years before going mobile. “A lot of my clients now genuinely can’t get to a salon easily — elderly clients, new mums, farmers who can’t take half a day off. I go to them instead.”

The logistics nobody thinks about

A full kit lives permanently in the boot of her car — everything from a portable basin to backup scissors. “You learn very quickly what you actually need versus what you thought you needed. The kit’s gotten a lot lighter over the years.”

The unexpected part of the job

She’s become something of an informal community connector — clients pass along news, check-ins on each other, occasional requests to look in on a neighbour. “I probably know more about what’s going on in three counties than most local papers do.”
