Six months ago, this choir was rehearsing in a community centre with about fourteen regular members. Now they’re opening for a national tour, off the back of a single video clip that found its way to the right person’s phone.
The clip that changed things
A member filmed a rehearsal on her phone, mostly for the group chat. It ended up on social media, then in front of a touring artist’s manager, who reached out within the week. “We genuinely thought it was a scam email at first,” the choir’s director admits.
Rehearsing for the big stage
Preparing for a proper venue has meant learning things a community hall never demanded — stage presence, monitor mixes, the general chaos of a soundcheck. “We’re choir singers, not performers, if that makes sense. We’re figuring out the difference in real time.”
What happens after the tour
Nobody’s quite sure. But membership enquiries have tripled since the news got out locally, so whatever happens next, the choir itself is about to look very different.
