Raising Three Kids and Forty Sheep: One Mother’s Routine

She’s up before six most mornings, sheep first, kids second — though as she’ll tell you, most days it feels like the other way round by 8am.

The morning shuffle

“Lambing season is its own kind of madness, but honestly the school run some mornings feels harder to manage. At least the sheep don’t forget their PE kit.”

What the kids have picked up

All three help out to some degree, even the youngest, who mostly just likes naming the lambs. “They’ve a work ethic already that I don’t think you can teach any other way. They just absorb it from watching.”

The bit nobody asks about

“People assume it must be exhausting, and it is. But there’s something about doing it all together — kids, animals, the whole mess of it — that I wouldn’t trade for an easier version of any of it.”
