The Return of the Summer Sessions at the Old Mill

For nearly a decade, the Old Mill’s Thursday night sessions were the closest thing the area had to a music institution. They stopped in 2021, quietly, without much explanation. This summer, without much fanfare either, they started again.

Why they stopped

The mill changed hands, and the new owners weren’t musicians — the sessions simply didn’t fit into their plans for the space. It took a change of ownership again, this time to someone who used to play there as a teenager, to bring them back.

The same, but different

Some of the original regulars have shown up again, older but not much changed. A newer, younger crowd has found it too — word travelled fast once the first night was posted online. “It’s strange,” one long-time regular said. “Same room, same chairs even. Feels like no time passed.”

Going forward

Thursdays, from 9pm, no cover charge, no booking required — just show up. If it holds through the winter the way it’s held through the summer, it looks like the sessions are staying for good this time.
